Atta Awissat was awarded an Award of Excellence in the 60th Annual Pictures of the Year International 2003 competition in the Spot News / Magazine Division Category for "Mourning"

Nablus, West Bank. Relatives mourn as they carry the body of Palestinian policeman Mohammed Qassem during his funeral in the West Bank town of Nablus March 1, 2002. Qassem was killed February 28th in the Israeli incursion into the Balata refugee camp outside Nablus.
