Yannis Kontos to exhibit work in Athens

Yannis Kontos, a winner of 19 international photojournalism awards will exhibit work from two extensive projects at the Frissiras Museum in Athens, Greece through May 13, 2007.

Kontos' Athens show is divided into two parts: "North Korea: Red Utopia" and "Possible/Impossible: Aporias"

In "North Korea: Red Utopia," Kontos takes viewers on a tour of North Korea, perhaps one of the most restrictive environments for a photographer. Kontos had previously tried and failed for three years to get into the country and eventually gained access after using false papers and posing as a tourist. As a result, the majority of the images in this exhibit were taken surreptitiously, as government minders were ever-present.

"Possible/Impossible: Aporias" takes viewers on a journey through Kontos' work from 1997 to the present day. The title comes from the ancient Greek, ‘no passage’, and means ‘the insurmountable’.
