2006 Caribbean Poker Classic attracts players from across the globe

Professional poker players take part in a $900,000, No Limit Hold ëem game of poker on the final day of the Caribbean Poker Classic. The competition brought together 155 players from 11 countries at the Marriott St. Kitts Resort and Royal Beach Casino from November 25 through December 2, 2006.

Poker player, Pete Willy, of Denmark, placed third in the tournament, winning USD $82,200.

A commuter, one of many walking wounded, leaves the Edgware Road Underground Station, still clutching his morning paper. A suicide bomber blew himself up on a tube train at the station, killing seven passengers. This was one of four terrorist attacks on the transport system, resulting in 52 innocent deaths. Around 1,000 protesters have settled in The Camp For Climate Action near Heathrow, and another thousand is expected by Sunday to protest over proposals for a third runway at Heathrow airport and the wider issue of the impact of aviation on climate change.

Robosoccer World Cup where goals are scored by robots

The week-long "RoboCup" competition is organized by FIRA (Federation of International Robosoccer Association) and it held its World Cup while human players were sweating it on the grass. This year marks the eleventh anniversary of this robotic soccer tournament, which hopes to have a team of humanoid robots that can defeat the World Cup soccer champions by the year 2050, so it's not a coincidence that the RoboCup takes place alongside the World Cup in Germany. Over 17 countries are represented, along with 2500 scientists and 55 registered teams. There are five different leagues, ranging from "simulations" to the "four-legged league" to the ultimate, "humanoid league". Edmond Terakopian

Edmond Terakopian is a London-based press photographer. In 2006 he was named "Photographer Of The Year" in the British Press Awards, picked up the third place in the spot news category of World Press Photo and also received a special award in the British Picture Editors' Awards. He has been a regular contributor to Time Out Magazine in London and has also been published in other publications as diverse as War Report, Time, Newsweek, foto 8 and many newspapers, both in the UK and abroad. He is in receipt of several Kodak Press Awards for Photography and Printing and won a major award in the M.I.L.K. competition. He has also won a Trinity Mirror prize for his fashion photography. His work has been in several exhibitions; World Press Photo, The Press Photographers' Year, several BPPA exhibitions (New Year's Day, 5000 Days and Unseen) and is included in the M.I.L.K. collection which toured major international cities from 2001 to 2003. Previously he was a senior staff photographer at the award winning Harrow Observer and Wembley Observer newspapers for over 12 years.
