Iraqi women lack many rights

Maria breaks into tears when she sees a photograph of her daughter. She fled her husband and his mother after being forced into prostitution, leaving her daughter behind. Like many Iraqi women, Maria feels that there is no alternative. There was a time when Iraqi women had more rights, but after the reign of Saddam Hussein, six years of United Nation's economic sanctions, and the current war, women have lost those advances.
