Sudanese humanitarian crisis

More international aid is desperately needed to resolve the crisis in Sudan that has caused hundreds of thousands of Sudanese to flee to neighboring Chad. Fighting in the remote western area of Sudan has affected two million people and driven 158,000 people across the border, creating what the United Nations has said is one of the world's worst humanitarian crises. Humanitarian groups say the fighting has blocked the delivery of much-needed aid. A senior UN official has reported that there is "credible information" that Sudanese forces and government-backed Arab militias had carried out summary executions of civilians in the Darfur region; according to US Secretary of the State Colin Powell, the US government is considering whether the mass displacements and killings in Darfur constitute genocide.
