Space Shuttle Discovery sets off on space station mission

In the early mornng hours, Space Shuttle Discovery crew members make their way to launch pad 39-A at the Kennedy Space Center, ahead of a mission to the international space station. The Discovery crew is charged with the installation of a giant Tinkertoy-type link that must be installed at the space station before Japanese and European laboratories can arrive.

Some 35,000 supporters attended what is being trumpeted as Senator and presidential candidate Barack Obama's largest campaign rally to date. Crowds gathered near Independence Hall in Philadelphia just four days ahead of the pivotal Pennsylvania primary. Rival Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton's lead over Obama in the Keystone State has narrowed to just five percentage points.

President Gerald R. Ford, 38th President of the United States, lies in State in the Rotunda of the United States Capitol for an official State funeral before leaving for a memorial service at the National Cathedral. President Ford died at the age of 93 at his retirement home in California. President Ford's wife Betty and family were on hand for the rotunda ceremony.
