ELN Head quarters in the San Lucas Mountains

Credit: Robert Stolarik January 20, 2001 Vallecito, Colombia This young guerilla girl a member of the ELN just came into the town of Vallecito from deep into the San Lucas Mountains. The hour walk from town down river is the home of the headquarters of the ELN. This town was completely destroyed by the paramilitary in October. most of the buildings have been burned to the ground. The guerilla stands in what used to be a small shop now all that is left is a concrete slab and the graffitti on the walls which reads " Get out Guerillas" on the wall to the right it is signed by the Paramilitary with the intials AUC. In this region it is impossible to photograph the faces of these guerillas, they are very afraid of the paramilitarys return. This is the heart of the soon to be demilitarized zone, the people from the village who are left are in favor of this zone because they believe it will bring stability to the region if the paramilitary was no longer close to them.
